Assignment Options

With WebAssign assignments, you are in control. You can decide what kind of feedback your students receive, how many times they may attempt the assignment, and more. You can use WebAssign to teach the way you want to teach!

Within the assignment the options that you can choose are:

  • Feedback given, both before and after the due date
  • Number of submissions
  • Time to complete assignment
  • Randomization of assignment
  • Weighting of questions

Feedback options are highly customizable. You may decide to provide no feedback at all, the total score for the assignment only, or a detailed grade report which lets the students know exactly which ones are correct and which are incorrect. You may also choose to show the answer key if you like, perhaps after the due date for use as a study guide for your students.

The number of submissions can be set at any number between 1 and 100 and you can choose to grade either the first submission or the last submission.

The assignment can be randomized in several different ways.

No Randomization - The entire class receives the same form of the assignment to work.
Randomization By Person - Every student receives a different form of each question, which remains the same for the duration of the assignment.
Different every time - Every student receives a different form of the question each time they attempt the assignment.

Each question can also be weighted so that some questions and assignments are worth more points than others. You can even use fractional points if you like. When weighting questions the student will be shown the new weight of the question so that they know which questions to spend the most time on.

"Randomization... prevents students from simply copying the answers from their friends, and...the allowance for multiple submissions broadens the role of homework assignments. Instead of simply providing assessment, they also are tutorial instruments."
