Database Administrator

Role and Responsibilities

  • Architect, maintain, tune, and analyze all aspects of the production database.
  • Administer, maintain, develop, and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company database.
  • Create data models and database designs, data access, and table maintenance codes.
  • Review and approve schema and queries from software developers.
  • Administer and support existing databases while ensuring optimized performance, stability, and uptime.
  • Consistently analyze performance and architecture to optimize performance and integrity.
  • Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.
  • Responsible for advising CTO on capacity requirements for the database.
  • Participate in the implementation of redundancy plans.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of MySQL 5.X
  • Experience with InnoDB
  • Strong Linux/Solaris skills
  • Proven ability to set up and manage replication databases
  • Basic understanding of networking

Preferred:

  • Experience with web servers and server farms
  • Experience with storage solutions
  • Experience at a smaller to mid-size company, to allow a broader operational view

Education Requirements and Experience

Requires a four-year degree or equivalent with 4 years of experience minimum in a DBA role.
